Wedding write up; 15 May 1919
One of the prettiest and most impressive home weddings that has ever occurred here (Elkin) was solemnized on Thursday evening of last week, at 8:30 o'clock, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Ball, on West Main street, when their daughter, Miss
Minnie Ball, became the bride of Lieutenant R. F. Joyce, of Stoneville.. In the north parlor of the home, where the wedding vows were assumed, a lovely setting of pink and white had been effected. On either side of the improvised altar, tall
pedestals held graceful baskets of exquisite white killarney roses, while myraids of delicately shaped candles cast a soft radiance over the scene. Immediately preceeding the cermony, Miss Inez Billings of Winston-Salem, sang very sweetly, "I
Love Yoy Truely." With Miss Lura Kirkman, niece of the bride, at the piano, as the first notes of the familiar bridal chorus from Lohengrin were heard, Rev. C. W. Robinson, pastor of the Presbyterian church, took his place at the altar. The
groom, attended by the best man Mr. Ben Jones, of Leaksville, met his bride who entered the the room with her maid of honor Miss Jeanette Ball. The bride was never so beautiful as in her brideal costume of white embroidered georgette and satin
and her filmy veil, caught with sprays of lily-of-the-valley. She carried an exqusite bouquet of brides' roses showered with lily-of-the-valley. The maid of honor wore a lovely gown of pink georgette and carried a beautiful bouquet of pink
Maryland roses. During the impressive ceremony Miss Kirkman played very softly, "To a Wild Rose." Mendellsohn's Wedding March was used as a ressionial. Following the ceremony and congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Joyce left by automobile for
Winston-Salem, from which place they went to the home of the groom at Stoneville. Although no formal invitations were issued to the wedding, the bride recieved many handsome gifts of silverware, cut glass, linens, etc., from her countless friends. Mrs. Joyce is one of Elkin's most beautiful and lovely young women,
Possessing a charming personality, combined with a sweet disposition and strong qualities of true womenhood, she has won the love and admiration of a host of friends who wish her all possible happiness. The groom is a young man of sterling
character, and has held a responsible position with a prominent tobacco firm here prior to his enlistment for military service. Friends of the bride and groom are pleased to know that they will return to Elkin to reside within a period of a
few months.
