Notes
Individual:
"Moved west" was a notation next to the name of John Ike on 1914 note that was written in East Stroudsburg, PA with his wife's name, Margaret Barnes.

In the 1955 family history by Harry Albert Ike he states: "John Ike married Margaret Brnro went west, had two boys, one girl, her name was Vinnie. The children changed their name from Ike to Ickes. Harold Ickes, Secretary of Interior was one of the boys. I don't know about the others. Harold was married two times."
NOTE: I have not been able to confirm this information and have traced Harold Ickes back to an Ickes family in Pennsylvania.

Also in a 12/16/1991 note from Albert Ike to Ruth Ike Hackert stating: "Did I mention that I've located five generations of Ike's in Kansas, Nebraska, Illinois and Iowa who are descended from George Barnes Ike, a cousin of your grandfather, Albert Francis Ike. Remember the notation in Uncle Bert's bible about John Ike, son of Jacob Ike and Sarah Tiger? According to those notes, John married Margaret Barnes (It looks like Brnro) and 'moved west'. They were married in 1845 in Wilkes Barre, PA and had nine children. John Ike died in 1905 in Milledgeville, Illinois."

While searching the "Ike" surnane on the internet I came across a request by Judith Vermillion (judith@sedonalink.com) which was dated 9/12/1999 stating that "Margaret Barnes married John Ike. Issue of marriage is Louisa Ike Holly, died Rockford, Il. and George Ike, b. 1855 d. 1930 in Red Cloud, Nebraska."

I responded and received the following response from her: "My gg grandfather is John Ike, date of birth unknown, and may have been born in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. He married Margaret Barnes. Two children were born as issue to this marriage; my ggrandmother, Louisa Ames Ike, b. 7 Sept 1862 in Mattoon, Coles County, Illinois, d. 15 Feb 1930 in Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois, married Edgar Alonzo Holly, 6 April 1880 in Stirling, Whitside County, Illinois; and her brother George B. Ike, b. 10 Aug 1855, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, d. 19 Feb 1930, McCook, Red Willow County, Nebraska, married Emma A. Keller in Boon County, Iowa. If you wish, I can send you the names of their children, etc., or you can GEDCOM my PAF file to you. You are an answer to a prayer. I had hit a dead end on this line some years ago, and it is so exciting to see a light at the end of my Ike tunnel. Do you know if Jacob Ike was our immigrating ancestor? Also, would you mind sharing with me your documentation? Thank you so much for your inquiry. It means a lot to me. How do we tie in together? Judith Vermillion" NOTE: She has sent me her information regarding her family, some of which is included in the Ike Family book. We have been in contact with each other numerous times regarding just about everything!

In a 2/4//2001 e-mail from Albert Ike who was given Judith Vermillion information and address he wrote: "Margaret Barnes had two sons name George, one of who must have dies at birth or as an infant in 1853. The other children were Almon (1846), Emma Jane (1847-1922), Sarah Elizabeth (1849), Almira (1851oe 52), George Barnes Ike,(1854-1930), Anna Mary Ike (1856-?), John Edwin (1858), Louisa Ames (1862-1930).

This book contained a biography on page 1518 of Herbert Eike. It states about his father Jacob Ike: "After his marriage Mr. Eike engaged in farming in Morris County, N.J. rear the Warren County line., and there died at the age of eighty-four years.
