???? is this the same Benjamin Bowles ---
The following notice appeared in the VIRGINIA GAZETTE, a newspaper published in Williamsburg, Virginia. It was inserted by Benjamin BOWLES on 27 August 1756:
"Whereas Sarah HOLMAN, a Niece of mine, under Age, and to whom I am Guardian, hath lately made an Elopement from me, and, as I believe, with an Intent to marry one SNEAD (alias CRUTCHFIELD) and as I think it will be greatly to her Disadvantage, this is to give Notice to all County-Court Clerks not to grant them Marriage License, and to all Ministers not to marry them by Publication of Banns. I not knowing what Part of the Colony they may resort to, to accomplish their Design, am obliged to make Use of this Method to prevent them."

Please note: I have not seen the original, although it must be on microfilm. This is copied from VIRGINIANS AT HOME: FAMILY LIFE IN THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY by Edmund S. Morgan (Colonial Williamsburg, Inc., 1952), p. 35.
