Lois,
I would love to share information with you, so if you dont mind email me directly and I will you as well. I still have family that live in Breathitt, my mother and daddy are buried in the Haddix Cemetery off route 1110. I dont get to come down home as much as I would like, and when I do Im running alot. I believe that Manford with his first wife, the first Sarah had Rachel and Haney Clemons, the sisters that married Robert and William Strong. To my knowledge there is a big gap between his first marriage and his second. Anyway, email me direct and I can give you what little knowledge I have. Also if you could, find out where he is buried. I know where Mary and Robert Costello are as well as another sister Rhoda or Rodey and Dave Bush, but I havent found Manfords grave. I have information on his military history, if you dont have it, I will be happy to send it to you. Love to hear from you.
Another cousin in around about way
Joyce

Joyce,
You are right about there being a long time between the first and second marriage because Rachel was I think almost twenty years between her and Mary. One of Manford's wives was named Polly.(I believe) It is getting confusing with all the Manfords. Manford1 who was Rachel, Haney, Mary, and the rest's father. I don't know for sure where he is burried but I might know someone who does. Manford2 who was Mary's son is burried in MI. His wife is still living there as well as his son (also named Manford) and his daughter. This Manford did serve in WWII and was a POW. Then there is Manford Calvin Costello Sr. who is my father also served in the military and was in Vet Nam, as was his brother Paul both made it home safe. There are a coulple of more Manford's in the family also. My mother says to ask you parents names she said she didn't believe she knew you but bet she knew you parents. Want's to know if you are Richard's daughter. Anyway email me and I will be happy to swap info my email is lois1154@yahoo.com

Joyce,
Manford was the father of my great grandmother Mary Clemons Costello, I believe she is the sister of Ben Clemons. My father was named after his uncle Manford who was Mary's son who in turn was named after Mary's father Manford Clemons. You are right I am sure Manford was married 3 times. I don't recall the names of the women but I can get them. His first marriage resulted in at least one child Rachel who married a Strong. His second marriage resulted in I think 4 children Ben, Mary,Rhoda (I think) and another daughter. His third marriage was late in life and there were no children. I would be happy to get all this information for you.
I will have to go to my mother as she has a copy of a family tree for the Strong's who were her mother's family and that is where I got the infor on Manford Clemons. We are I believe in a round about way cousins.
Manford Clemons being our g-g-grandfather.

Joyce,
Sorry to be so long in responding. I do not know where Manford is burried but I will give you what information I have.
Rachel Was the daugheter of Manford Clemons and Polly McIntosh as was Haney and also Manford Jr. Polly died before 1877 and Manford married Sarah Haddix. Sarah was the mother of Mary, Martha, Benjamin Harrison and Rhoda. Manford also had a third wife but they had no children. Rachel's son Will was my grandmother's Marget's father. I am also related to her half sister Mary through My father. Mary married Peter Costello and was the mother of Robert who was my grandfather. I hope I am not confussing you. My Great Aunt Dora (Strong) Gault (Rachel's granddaughter) may know where Manford is burried. I will ask her and get back with you.

I am not 100 % sure of the following info I have on Manford Clemons and his two daughters.
Haney b- 1865-66 & Rachel.b 1869-70. They were sisters but not twins. Manford married
1st a Sarah (Unknown) b-1851--d-1876 They were married in 1864-Breathitt Co.
She was only 13 when they were married. Their children Manford jr.--John--Harim--
Haney-(m-William Strong) & Rachel (m- ?? ) After this Sarah died Manford married
another Sarah ( This is where I have a problem. The death date of the 1st Sarah and the birth of
Manfords next child is over 10 years --this is not consistent with the times?)
Her name was Sarah M. Haddix and their children -Mary C. b 1887--Martha b1888-
-Benjamin Harrison b1892- -Rhoda b 1896. Old Manford married for a 3rd time in 1899
to a Martha Morris. I have nothing on the music abilities of Williams & Haney's children.
There is another Rachel b-1868 d/o Lafayette Clemons and Katherine"Katie"Nobel but
I have her married to a Ben Miller. So I assume Haneys sister was the Rachel that married
Robert Strong. I have contact with another of Manfords descendants and she is trying to
tie down the info we have. Hope this does not confuse. Sorry I could not be more concise.
Feel free to contact me if you want and I will try to help.

sopposed to be father of my great grandmother, but he never married Lucinda

JUDITH, I READ YOUR INQUIRIES ABOUT WILLIAM AND HANEY CLEMONS STRONG. TO
ANSWER SOME OF THEM, RACHEL AND HANEY CLEMONS WERE INDEED SISTERS. THEY WERE
NOT TWINS HOWEVER, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. THEY WERE THE DAUGHTERS OF
MANFORD CLEMONS AND SARAH ???? ACCORDING TO MY RECORDS HANEY WAS OLDER THAN
RACHEL. I HAVE HANEY BEING BORN AROUND 1867 AND RACHEL BEING BORN ABOUT
1864. MARRIAGE RECORDS FOR THE BOTH ARE RECORDED IN THE BREATHITT COUNTY
COURTHOUSE IN BOOK 4 PAGE 107 FOR HANEY AND WILLIAM AND BOOK 4 PAGE 45 FOR
RACHEL AND ROBERT. MANFORD CLEMONS WAS THE SON OF FRANCIS CLEMONS AND FANNY
MILLER CLEMONS, THEY LIVED AROUND THE QUICKSAND AREA, THEN AROUND
TROUBLESOME CREEK. I DO KNOW THAT RACHEL AND HANEY HAVE TWO SISTERS BURIED
IN THE HOWARDS CREEK CEMETERY, OFF ROUTE 1110 THROUGH HADDIX KY TO HOWARDS
CREEK RD. CHECK OUT STEPHEN D BOWLINGS WEBPAGE ON THE BREATHITT CO WEBPAGE
AT BREATHITTCOUNTY.COM. ALSO IF YOU CAN GET IN TOUCH WITH CAROLYN STRONG SHE
HAD ALOT OF INFROMATION ON THE STRONG FAMILY LINE. WOULD BE VERY
INFORMATIVE. SHE IS AT CSTRONG@ GTE.NET. CHECK HER OUT SEE IF THIS IS
HELPFUL.......UNTIL LATER JOYCE CLEMONS NEACE (JNEACE410@aol.com )
