Individual:
2History of Crawford County OH
"...Around 1832, an influx of Germans came directly from the mother country and the area became so strongly German that public and private business was conducted in the German language, and state and national election tickets were printed in both English and German...One of the early settlers of the township was James McKinley, grandfather of President McKinley..."
...And Representative Citizens
"Philip Cramer, who is one of Crawford county's substantial citizens and well-known and highly-respected men...was only nine years old when his father died and afterward for four years he lived with his uncle, Peter Yocum, at New Washington, and then worked on farms for eleven years, following which he bought an old saw mill in Cranberry Twp..."
Philip Cramer is listed with the Peter Yochum family in the 1860 OHCrCh census, as 14 years old.
obituary in Bucyrus newspaper:
"Peter Yochum, who has been ailing for some time, died at the residence of his son-in-law John Miller Thursday morning July 28 in his 76th year. Mr Yochum was one of the oldest members of our town, having lived here nearly 41 years. Much of the business prosperity was due to his unremitting efforts for the peoples' good. The death of his wife a few years ago caused him to feel lonely, but he was well cared for by his many relatives. The funeral service was held at the Catholic Saturday forenoon, after which a large concourse of friends followed the remains to the cemetery, north of town." On the same page of this paper, "Peter Yochum, of Galion, attended the funeral of Grandfather Yochum last Saturday."
the week before, the newspaper printed:
"Mrs. John Gessner of Elyria, Mr and Mrs Mat. Karl of Sandusky, J J Yochum, of Tiffin, and John Yochum of Allen county, were at the bedside of Peter Yochum, who is seriously ill at the residence of his son-in-law, John Miller."
