Notes
Individual:
In 1115 Robert held land in Winteringham, Lincolnshire, from Walter de Gaunt. He succeeded his father by 1129 and defended Falaise against King Stephen in 1136-1137. In 1140 Geoffrey, Earl of Anjou besieged and destroyed his castle of Fontenay. He was founder of the abbey of Barbery and of the nunnery of Polessorth, Warwickshire. He was slain in warfare with William of Newburgh, the Earl of Chester, under monastery walls at Coventry.
