She came to Florida with her parents in 1890 when she was sixteen.
They made the three week trip walking beside the horse and wagon thatcarried their possessions. The party consisted of Laura, her brother,Anon, their younger sister, Osceola, adopted sister, Susan, and acousin, Mitchell Drew. Laura was a devout Christian lady who had adifficult life, particularly after her husband's untimely death. Shesupported herself and her sons by nursing. and she took in boarders inher home. In later years she moved to her son's country place whereshe had her own little house near a lake. She loved to fish and was agood cook. She made all of her own clothes.
