"A peculiarity of the Church of Scotland is that the date of marriages is not required to be recorded, only the date the banns were announced. Dates of death are not recorded in the Church records unless the family paid a fee for having the bells tolled for their departed family member in which case a notation was sometimes made in the financial record of the Church.
