Samuel R. Durand, quoting from the Dedham Historical Register, Vol. III:
"Magdalen Bullard [was the] eldest daughter of John Bullard, one of the original signers of the Dedham Covenant and one of the first settlers of the town of Dedham. He came to Medfield in 1651... He bequeathed legacies to his daughters, Abigail and Hannah, and a legacy to John Partridge, husband of the third."
Rev. Abner Morse:
"John Bullard was undoubtedly the brother of Edward and William, and is presumed to have settled with them at Watertown, where he became a member of the church, and from which he with others was dismissed and received to the church in Dedham 30 May 1641, 'Mr. Phillips, the pastor, and Elders Carter and Howe testifying in their favour.'
He was one of the original proprietors of Dedham, had land assigned to him adjoining his brother William's, and probably removed to Dedham as early as 1637. He was rated at Dedham as one of the more able citizens in 1647, and private accounts were early entered against him abroad as 'one of the two Bullards of Dedham.' In 1650, he became one of the select proprietors of the new town of Medfield, enjoying with them in such a degree the confidence of the General Court that, in the act of incorporation, they were not bound as in all similar cases within a specified time to build a meeting-house, settle a minister, and establish a school; their character being a pledge that these things would be attended to in due season. He immediately removed to Medfield, where he shared largely in the division of her public lands, and enjoyed the respect and confidence of her citizens. In all these removals he accompanied Samuel Morse and sons, with whom and the Bullards a near relationship is presumed to have existed. On removing to Medfield he probably left his place in Dedham to his son John and probably son Isaac. He married Magdalene ________ , who died 29 (1) 1661, and married 2nd Ellen Dickerman, widow of Thomas Dickerman of Dorchester, and with her at Medfield sold land at Dorchester 29 (4) 1665.
Dennis Partridge:
"A house of eight acres was assigned to John in Medfield in 1652. In 1675, John is on the list of subscribers to the fund for the 'new brick college' (Harvard), his contribution to be a bushel and a half of 'Indian corn.' "
William S. Tilden:
"John Bullard was killed in 1678 'by the overthrowing of a cart,' as the old record has it. His will gave the homestead to his son Joseph, with legacies to be paid to his son-in-law John Partridge and daughters Abigail Stockwell and Hannah, wife of Benjamin Allen."
