-
Mrs. Charles Luzader, 64, of Seneca county, was fatally injured and her husband was seriously hurt about 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon when theirbuggy was struck by an automobile driven by Howard Newell, of Bloomdale,at the intersection of East Foulke and Crystal avenues. Mrs. Luzader diedwithin 45 minutes after the accident at the D. R. Greer residence 818Bernard avenue. Mr. Luzader was taken to the Greer residence unconscious. His head was badly bruised and one ear was partially severed. Doctorsbelieved last night that he would recover, although his condition wasdeclared to be critical.
Barnhart's ambulance was called but it was not thought advisable to take Mr. Luzader from the Greer home. He remained unconscious for about anhour after the accident. Drs. D. B. Biggs and R. W. Van Horn attendedhim. The body of Mrs. Luzader was taken to Barnhart's undertakingestablishment until funeral arrangements could be made.
Tragedy Mars Visit.
Mr. and Mrs. Luzader came to Findlay to visit at the Greer residence, the old house of Mrs. Luzader. Yesterday they drove to the home of their sonForest Luzader, on Bell avenue. Returning, they were just crossingCrystal avenue toward the home of the Greer family on Bernard avenue whenthe automobile struck them, crushing the buggy and passing apparentlydirectly over the wrecked vehicle. It was evident that both wheels of theautomobile on one side had passed over her body. Miss Anna Luzader, adaughter, and Mrs. Charles Hatt, of Cleveland, a sister of Mrs. Luzadersaw the fatal crash from the yard of the Greer home, where they werewaiting for the elderly couple to return.
Bernard avenue intersects Crystal avenue almost directly opposite the Foulke avenue intersection. The side streets are somewhat lower than theCrystal avenue grade and the crossing is known as a dangerous one. Thedriver of the automobile declared that he saw the buggy approachingCrystal avenue and slowed up expecting to pass it when it turned towardFindlay. But instead, the Buggy turned in the opposite direction fromthat he expected.
Touches Accelerator.
Seeing that an accident was imminent, Newell declared he tried to stop the machine in time by applying the foot brake but while attempting touse the brakes quickly he must have touched the accelerator pedal.Instead of stopping, the car dashed forward over the few intervening feetwith increased speed and struck the vehicle squarely. In the automobilealso were Melvin England and his sister of Fostoria. They were not hurt. The occupants of the automobile did what they could to help the victimsof the wreck.
Mrs. Luzader was born in Washington county, Pa., she had lived near Carey for many years. She leaves three sons and four daughters. They are:Forest Luzader, of Bell avenue; Harry, living on the Base Line road; William, of Tiffin; Miss Anna Luzader, at home; Mrs. Ada Stahl, Carey;Mrs Myrtle Bish, of Chicago Junction; and Mrs. Viola Class, of Arcadia.
Mrs. Charles Hutt, of Cleveland; and Mrs Nevada Bachar, of 222 Broadway, are sisters of the deceased. D. R., T. R., and A. E. Greer, of Bernardavenue, are brother of the deceased.
