FUNERAL SET THURSDAY FOR Dr. W. A. MACAULAY
The funeral of Dr. W.A. Macaulay, 65, former pastor of Parkwood Avenue ARP
church of Charlotte and native Mecklenburger, who died Saturday morning in
Tampa, Fla, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Associate
Reformed Presbyterian Church in Greenville, SC, and burial will be in the
cemetery there, Mecklenburg relatives were informed yesterday.
Yesterday afternoon a short funeral service was held at Tampa, where Dr.
Macaulay had been pastor the last eight years. Last fall Dr. Macaulay was the
preacher at a series of special services at Glenwood ARP Church in Charlotte.
The minister was born about three miles northwestof Huntersville, attended
the Huntersville School, the University of North Carolina, Erskine College and
Erskine Seminary. He was a son of the late John Calvin Macaulay and Jane Beard
Macaulay and he had many relatives surviving in this section.
His first wife was Miss Eula O'Gwynn of Birmingham, Ala., and his second
wife was Miss Marjorie Moore of Georgia, who survives. Other surviving near
relatives are two daughters by the first marriage, Mrs. Herbert Crawford of
McConnellsville, SC, and Mrs Leighton McNeill of Fresco City, Ala., and two
sons, Billy Macaulay and Sidney Macaulay, and two daughters, Miss Jane Macaulay
and Miss Winifred Macaulay of Tampa, by the second marriage; and two sisters,
Mrs A.E. Love of Huntersville and Mrs A.M. Cathey of Davidson.
Dr. Macaulay organized the Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church at
Greenville, SC, which he served 30 years as pastor. He then returned to Tampa
where he had served after leaving the Parkwood Avenue church here. He was
graduated from the seminary at Due West, SC in 1903.
