Notes
Individual:
Frederick Varner settled adjacent to George and Matthew Varner in Wilkes County (now Oglethorpe), Georgia, a few years after the Revolutionary War ended. Other Varner researchers have concluded that George, Frederick, and Matthew Varner were brothers, primarily because they went into Georgia at about the same time and settled in the same vicinity. Extant records prove that Matthew and George Varner had both lived in Rowan and/or Randolph County, North Carolina during the Revolutionary War and for a few years thereafter. Frederick Varner probably lived in Randolph or Rowan County, North Carolina before moving to Georgia also. Only one record was located that supports that claim, however. In 1779, he was listed in the Randolph County, North Carolina Minutes of the Court of Pleas and Quarter Sessions for failing to return an inventory of his taxable property. The fact that Frederick Varner was a resident of Randolph County suggests, but does not prove, that he was a son of Adam Varner rather than of John Varner.
