So far (Dec 2001) there is no explanation of her middle name, Clayton.
Where did it come from?

Solution: Sarah Howorth's mother Mary nee Ormerod remarried John Clayton , fustian cutter, thus becoming Mary Clayton. She (or he) probably died just before the birth of Jemima.
There was also a Rev. John Clayton who opened a school, St Cyprian's, i n Salford in the early 1730s atteded by Ashton Lever of Alkrington Hall who was one of its first pupils.
