Text: 1 NOTE Soon after Feb. 1637/8 Robert Buffum, his wife and MargaretThompson, Thomasine's daughter by her first husband came to NewEngland. On October 29, 1638 Robert appeared at a town meetingand asked for "accomoddation", that is to say, a grant of land,which he obtained. Thomasine and her children became strongQuakers and for this "Administration on the estate of RobertBuffum, dying inestate, granted 2 October 1669 to Tamsen, thewidow who brought in an inventory whch was allowed. The twopapers given in as testimony, of Gartrid Pope and Eliza Kitchin,to prove what was the will and mind of the deceased, not beingattested upon oath, were not allowed, but were to remain on filein the records."
Evntually an agreement was made between Thomasine Buffum and herchildren. "Joshua and Caleb Buffum to have all the land in theNorth field, Joshua being the elder brother to have two thirdsand Caleb one part, the land and houseing in Salem one half toeach, as it is now divided excepting ten pole of ground in thehomestead next to the house and land of Henry Renold, being twopole and a half in from of the street and four poles deep, whichLydia my daughter, wife of John Hill shall have, she paying toher son Caleb Buffum for the same, ten pounds. Caleb Buffumshall pay to his brothers John Hill and Robert Willson, eachsixteen pounds in silver, within three years after herdecease.All the fround at Castle Hill bought by Tamasing Buffam,of Elias Stileman to be equally divided between her foursons-in-law Hohn Hill, Robert Willson, Wm. Beane and JeremiahNeale, entailed unto their grandchildren belonging to them thathave been and now are their wives, only she is to have duringher life one third of the produce of the land and one third ofall the wood that shall be cut onthe land, but if one thirdprove not sufficient then the sons and sons-in-law each of themto contribute out of the principle stock for her supply and forthe other estate on the inventory the mother to have liberty todispose of as she sees good."
