The earliest known Ward was Daniel A. Ward who was born in 1825 in Adams County, Ohio. His parents were both listed on the 1880 Federal U.S. Census as born in Pennsylvania.
The probable father is Benjamin Ward listed in the 1840 and 1860 Census in Highland and Adams County. The only other Ward in Adams County that might be the father was Robert Ward from Pennsylvania. He is in the 1840 to 1860 Census with several children. More research is needed to confirm the father of Daniel Ward. Daniel married Emeline Taylor on 23 August 1849 and had 12 children born in Franklin Township of Adams County and in Brushcreek Township of Highland County in Ohio. Of these children, Landon Ward born in 1864, married Ellen Ida Lewis in 1889 in Highland County.
The Lewis family came from Wales, England about 1790. Tobias Peter Ward, born in 1890, the second child of Landon and Ida Ward, married Serena Grace Seaman in 1915.
The Seaman family from Virginia moved to Adams County, Ohio and farmed large areas of land. Eventually the town of Seaman was named after this family.
