At the Salem Hist Soc I found a 3 p. "Husted families of NJ".
note from the county of Monroe in Rochester, NY. It starts with 39 yr old
Robert Husted arriving from Dorset, Eng. on March 20,1635, who settled in
Quincy, Mass. In 1640 he was a sitness to the Indian deed for lanc at
Greenwich, Conn. and by 16654 he owned land both at Stamford and Greenwich.
Wife is Elizabeth, caughter of Lawrence and Joanne Smith Miller (b. 1606 in
Dorset, Eng). Joanne was the sole heiress of Angell Smith of Stratton,
Dorset. robert's will was proved in 1654 and on October 16, Elizabeth made
her will. It was proved on Nov 20,, 1654.
Children of Robert and Eliz. were: Angell (b. in Eng. c. 1620), Ann (born
in England c. 1623 and married at Stamford, Ct in 1650 to Richard Hardy), and
Robert (b. in England c. 1626, and married at Stamford in 1655 to Elizabeth
Buxton.
Son Robert moved to Westchester County, NY and died there Nov 23, 1704,
leaving children robert, Samuel, John, Jonathan, david, Elizabeth, Sarah, and
Mary. Later the letter implies that was spelled "Heustis".
Son Angell, born 1620) remained in Greenwich, where he died in april,
1706. he and his father had witnessed original signing of the Indian deed in
July 1620. Children were: Rebecca, wife of Jonathan Reynolds, Jonathan (m.
Mary Lockwood), David (unmarried), Joseph, Angell, Moses (who moved to NJ),
John (who married Mary______?), Samuel (m. Sarah______), and Elizabeth
(m.______Baldwin).
"Sincs all Husteds in America seem to spring from Robert, born in England
in 1596, all Husteds are distantly related and can point with pride to their
relative, the Hon James William Husted, speaker of the lower House at Albany,
head of the NY National Guart and the New York Post Authority, better known as
the 'Bald Eagle' or 'Baldy' Husted. It was the Husted Act that provided for
the erection of the elevated rr in NYC. His son became a US Congressman.
In 1628, from tax records, Robert Husted had a home in or around the town of Pilsden, in Dorsetshire, England.
Copies of the wills for our ancestor Robert Husted and his wife Elizabeth are available, Robert Husted names his wife as Elizabeth. Land purchase deeds that Robert and his son Angell were witnesses for can be found. Wills and Deeds of land ect., are available from Robert Hustis jr., and Angell Huested sr.
Around March 20,1635, Robert was a member of the Weymouth Parish, and left England with the Crewkerne Parish Leader Reverend Joseph Hull, sailing from the Port of Weymouth, England, on a ship [Unknown],also possibly registered as the MARYGOULD, [Marygold]. They landed in Weymouth, Massachusetts.
It is [possible], just to get on the voyage, Robert could have also signed on as the servant of Richard Wade of Symondsbury, Dorset, England, working for Richard Wade in the Weymouth, Massachusetts area until his debt was paid and finally, Robert Husted himself was a land owner.
Robert lived somewhere in the area near Weymouth, Massachusetts, and on either November 27,1639 or January 27,1640, Robert and his family were offered a grant of land in Mount Woolaston [Braintree] of 32 acres of land, 4 acres for each family member, at a price of 3 shillings an acre. There must have been 8 members of the Robert Husted family to be eligible to purchase 32 acres of land? No records of Robert purchasing or selling this land has been found.
On July 18, 1640, Robert Husted and his son Angell Husted, signed as witnesses, a deed by Daniel Patrick and Robert Feakes to purchase land from the Native American Indians for the area now known as Greenwich, Connecticut.
Robert, by October,1642, was granted 7 acres of land in Stamford, Connecticut.
The words in , are not readable in the original document. Recorded in Stamford,Connecticut: "As of [Oc]tober,1642,in a general town meeting was given these, foll[owing],these lots as other men, marsh & woodland, viz:ine,Jo.Underhill, eight acres; to Robert Hustice seven acres; ree acres; & to every of themwoodland after the same proportion,& to William Newman two acres marsh and three acres woodlandland".
Robert had a home in Stamford, Connecticut and lived there until 1645, when he purchased land in Greenwich Connecticut from Robert Feakes, and built another home. His will of July 8, 1652, leaves his land in Stamford to his son Robert [Robert Hustis], his land in Greenwich to his son Angell [Heusted].
