Individual:
On Feb 10, 1864 eighteen year old Aaron Furr enlisted in the 28th NC Infantry, Company K at Liberty Mills, VA.
May 12, 1864 he was wounded at Spotsylvania, Courthouse. The thigh wound developed into gangrene and he was sent home to heal.
September 12, 1864 he returned to duty.
April 02, 1865 he was captured by Union troops at Petersburg, VA. and sent to the Union prison at Point Lookout, MD.
June 26, 1865 he was paroled following the April 09, 1865 surrender by General Robert E. Lee to General U.S. Grant at Appomattox, VA.
He served as Justice of the Peace and Postmaster at Bloomington, NC. He also owned a corn mill, cotton gin and sawmill.
Margaret Ellen "Maggie" Furr Tucker, Arron's youngest daughter recalled that on June 09 or 10th 1892, she traveled by wagon into Albemarle with her father. She remembers seeing accused murderer Alec Whitley's body hanging from a tree. Whitley accused of the brutal murder of Daniel Burton Tucker in Arkansas had fled back to Stanly County, NC. where he was taken into custody. An angry mob took him from jail and lynched him.
