Individual:
While serving in the USAF at Bossier Base in Shreveport, LA, attached to the Armed Forces Special Weapons Project he accepted a position with KRMD radio as an announcer. Upon discarge from the USAF he followed commerical radio in MS, NC, VA , TN and FL until entering into law enforcement in 1963 with the Mount Dora, Florida Police Department.
In 1966 joined the Florida Highway Patrol as a State Trooper. He joined the Brevard County, Florida Sheriff's Department in 1972 and rose to the rank of Sgt. He was decorated twice, once for the apprehencion of Stephen Perwin on three counts of first degree murder.
In 1977 he became spokesmen for then Sheriff Rollin Zimmerman. He became a favorite with the news media for his staunch support for the then controverisal Sheriff and his pioneer movement for crime prevention vs enforcement. Many felt that the incumbant Sheriff's endorsement of Tucker was a 'kiss of death'.
After his defeat he left law enforcement for art. His folk art in the form of paintings and sculpture adorn homes, offices and resturants across the country and in Germany.
Donald Tucker passed away after a short bout with cancer on September 26, 2001 in Lake City, Florida. In actuality he died of "Septic Shock", the result of an infection that his immune system could not fight off after chemotherapy.
