Individual:
Valentine was the second owner of the Alsace Homestead farm. He built the present day house i
n 1843. An interesting family story repeated by his descendents that he had a dream, that there was a deposit of iron ore on his farm. The facts are that during the Civil War, 4000 tons of iron ore were mined from this farm.
He and his family were very active members of the Reformed Congregation of Spies Church. He w as one of the founders and a chartered member of the Cemetary Company, formed April 16, 1861. He bought a full lot in the cemetary where he and his wife and many of their children are buried. He was a republican in politics and served his district as an assessor.
