The following information was taken from "Polk Family and Kinsmen," 1912, William Harrison Polk, and Emma Angellotti's "The Polks of North Carolina and Tennesee, 1923-1924:
Robert was a very active, enterprising planter and citizen and possessed great force of character. Robert owned considerable land at his death, but it appears he acquired most of it by purchase rather than by land grant as the only grant shown under his name was "Bally Hack," consisting of 200 acres, lying in Somerset County, 8 Nov., 1700. It is recorded at the Maryland Archives, land records, Book 5, pages 73-74. The Dorchester County records show a number of land transactions in the name of Robert Polk. Those before 1727 were by Robert Jr. Those after that year (in which he died), were by his son Robert Polk 3rd, who appears to have been a very large land proprietor, purchasing many tracts.
The tracts of land devised by Robert in his will [will dated 21 Feb 1725 (or 1726/27...difficult to read ..... see transcript below] and probated in Dorchester Co., MD., 10 May 1727) were: "Venture," "Hazard," "Forlorn Hope" and "Bally Hack." No executor was named. The witnesses to the will were William Polk, Daniel Harrison and Robert Polk. To his son Thomas, Robert Jr. devised "Venture," the "dwelling plantation." To his son Robert, then under fourteen years of age, he gave "Hazard." And said Robert was to be a free man at 14 years if his mother should marry again. To his brother Joseph Polk, Robert devised part of a tract called "Forlorn Hope." According to other records in Maryland, Robert and his wife Grace had the following children: Thomas, William, Robert, Mary, Grace and three other daughters whose names are unknown.
Robert may have been the only child of Robert and Magdalen to leave the Presbyterian church. He appears to have become a Baptist.

"Polk Family and Kinsmen," pp. 81-82 states about this inventory of the estate of William Polk, son of John Polk, son of Robert Polk/Magdalen Tasker of Somerset Co., Maryland: "The singular feature about this inventory is that it was signed by James Cannon, John Pollet, Robert Polk and Thos. Polk as 'creditors and the next of kin.' Robert and Thomas Polk were probably his first cousins, sons of Robt. Polk and Grace Guillette. John Pollet was also probably his first cousin, a son of his aunt Martha. How James Cannon came to be next of kin, I do not know; but I am inclined to think that both he and John Pollet married two of the daughters of Robert Polk and Grace Guilette; that Wm. Will & Testament in manner and form following that is to say, first - & principally I recommend my Soul unto the Hands of Allmighty God hoping that through the Merrits Death & passion of my Saviour Jesus Christ to have full & free pardon of all my Sins & to inheritt Everlasting Life & my Body I commit to the Earth to be buried at the Direction of my Executors & as touching the Disposition of all such Temporal Estates as it hath pleased Allmighty God to bestow upon me I give & bequeath as followeth - First I will that my Just Debt of Funeral Charges be paid, so discharged. "Polk Family and Kinsmen," 1912, William H. Polk, pg. 673, states "The Dorchester County records show a number of land transactions in the name of Robert Polk. Other interesting entries on the dorchester records are: Appraisement of land of Clement Polk, under fourteen years old, orphan and child of Robert Polk, deceased, now under the guardianship of Manuel Manlove, made Sept. 7, 1712, of following tracts: 'Horseys Swamp,' 100 acres, 'Little Goshem,' 250 acres. This Clement Polk was doubtless a son of Robert Polk, Jr., and Grace Guillette, as Robert 3d was then but a small boy. Wm. Polk appointed guardian to Caleb and Mary, orphans of Christopher Nutter, August ---, 1773."
The above date of 1712 for the appraisal of the lands of Clement Polk is incorrect and is not 1712, probably should be 1762. The Will of Joseph Pollock was probated 10 June 1752 (ref PF&K, pg. 87), and in that will both of the above named properties were bequeathed to Robert Pollock, son of Joseph Pollock. Apparently Robert Pollock died between 1752 and 1762, since Clement Polk
has, by 1762, received these same lands from his deceased father Robert Polk. Appears the date of 1712 mistake, caused William Harrison Polk, compiler/author of "Polk Family and Kinsmen" to make an erroneous assumption in assigning Clement Polk as a child of Robert Polk, Jr., and Grace Guillette, and he compounded this by using that date to declare that Clement could not possibly be the son of Robert Polk III, either. Clement Polk could not possibly be the son of Robert Polk Jr., since Robert Jr. died in 1727. Based on the ages of the individuals, this Clement could have been the son of Robert Polk III, but Robert III's will names his children, and Clement is not one of them, nor are any of the above-mentioned named lands included in the lands bequeathed by Robert Polk III. The assignment of the same-named properties from grandfather (Joseph Pollock) to son (Robert Pollock or Polk) to son Clement Polk, definitely shows the proper family line. Additional information: The age of 14 being used here does not mean that Clement was close to age 14; that age (14) was often used in official records as the age where a child could make some decisions (not necessarily as an adult could), such as being allowed to help choose his/her guardian (as one example). So, Clement could be anywhere from age 1-13 in this record. Assuming this age range from 1-13, and using the year 1762 for the date of the appraisal, his birth year range would be from 1749-1761. I would guess that Clement was born in the 1750s, since his father Robert appears to have been born sometime after 1732, and I assume he was at least age 20 or so when he married.
