| GOHN/COON, John Ulrick (1690 - Present) |
|
According to the "Coon-Gohn Descendants from Chanceford Township, York County Pennsylvania" by Frances Davis McTeer (1979), the Gohn family came to America September 19, 1738, on the ship Thistle (John Wilson, Commander) and landed at Philadelphia from Rotterdam via Plymouth, England. At the time the Gohns arrived, there were no organized counties west of the Susquehanna River, so when they first settled they were technically in Lancaster County, PA until the formation of York County in 1749. John lived close to the river in Chanceford Township. | |
