BEF 1800 - teenage Scots boy, shipwrecked in Irish Sea
The only survivor of a shipwreck on the cliffs of the North Sea according to legend, Heuling Friedrich Ashorn, the first of a stout German lineage, was actually born in Scotland in the latter part of the 18th century. The teenaged boy was rescued by a German fisherman and taken to Germany. Why he gave up his Scots name and didn't return to his home is a mystery. Drifting to Brockhausen, Hanover Province, after he was grown, Heuling married Maria Elisa Luecken and had three children, two girls and a boy. Their mother died while giving birth to the youngest, Christoph Heinrich Ashorn, on September 14, 1824.
