Davis came from Wales to Connecticut before the Revolution. He migrated to Virginia. His name appears on a record headed "Enlisted Soldiers of the Virginia Line of the Continental Establishment who have received ceritificates for the balance of thier full pay agreeable to an Act of Assembly, past Nov. Session, 1781". He received 34 pounds on Nov. 27, 1784.
Davis Meredith, a Seventh Day Baptist and the great-grandfather of Addie Lawson, was born about 1750 in New Castle,
DE, settled in Connecticut at age 26 and fought in the Revolutionary War. His parents were farmer Job Meredith III and
Lydia Whitaker. He received 34 pounds of military back pay on Nov. 27,1784. His first wife died young and childless.
After the end of the war, he moved to Loudoun County, VA, where he married Elizabeth Howell and had two children. His
third wife, Nancy Pritchard, gave birth to seven children, including Job and Davis Jr. who became a Methodist lay
preacher. The Seventh Day Baptists moved as a group from Shrewsbury, NJ in September 1789, and had settled in Marion
County, WV, still under Indian threat, by May 13, 1792. The Baptist Missionary Society received a bequest from Davis after
his death on May 24, 1825 in Monongalia County, VA.
