    J. Dee Ellis's vision to save historical documents was extr
    adordinary. Among his collection was a ledger book from Armstrong's listing each customer who bought from the store and put their purchases "on account." Some of the payments were made with ash, or eggs & butter, and some by working for the store. Keep in mind, the dates of this document are between t
    he 1900 and 1910 census. Perhaps family members you are looking for were just passing through Lapeer and stopped long enough to shop at Armstrong's. Jim Jessop has the ledger book.
