Sophronia Sharon Reporter, Apr. 2, 1896:
Came to territory of Wisconsin with his parents in 1840 & settled on a
farm in Sharon township, on Sect. 13, which has his home up to the time
of his death. Received an academic education : and was a close student,
with a particular fondness for the works of the great authors." at time of his death, "His two remaining children are, Darius B., of this
village, and Mrs. N. Peterson, residing on the old homestead; besides
them is a deeply sorrowing, faithful and devoted wife, six
grand-children, three brothers and three sisters, viz: Ira L. Mason, of
Volney, Iowa; Milton M. Mason, of Emporia, Kas; William Mason, of
Kansas; Samantha, wife of B. F. Wright, editor of the FLoyd County
Advocate, Charles CIty, Iowa; Julia, wife of Seth B. Hall, teller of
Charles City, Iowa, National Bank, Iowa; Mary, wife of Lucius Smith,
Iowa, and a host of friends throughout the town and county.
Mr. Mason was a life-long Republican, and held many offices of public
trust to the satisfaction of his constituents. In 1850-51 he was one of
the constables of the township. In 1855, 1856, 1858 and 1868 he served
as justice of the peace. In 1862, 1864, 1870, 1872, 1874, 1875, 1877
and 1878 he was elected assessor and in 1876 he served as town
treasurer. In 1879 he represented the Second Assembly District in the
Legislature, to which he was elected without opposition, receiving 950
votes. He built his first farm house in 1858. He owned a number of fine
farms and it is conceded cleared and broke more land than and any other
in the town of Sharon."
