Samuel Stewart Stockard was a colonel in the Mohawk War (Black Hawk, 1832). He married Myra Louise Lester, daughter of Sara Fox Napier and Fountain E. Lester. Sara's parents were Mary Willis (1757-1810) and Col. Richard Clayborn Napier (N.C. 1747-Tenn. 1823); and Richard's parents were Martha Clayborn and Patrick Napier. The Clayborns were descendants of Lord Delaware, and two of them were early governors of West Virginia
