Text: He was the American Forbearer of this family. They came to America in 1851 with his bride-to-be, Henriette Fredrick. They arrived at Milwaukee, where he worked on a railroad, and she worked at a hotel, until they earned enough money to marry. They were married in 1853, in Milwaukee. They spent their honeymoon making a trip to Reedsville on foot. Once in Reedsville he acquired government land on which to farm. It is now know as the John Rosin Farm, 3/4 mile northeast of Reedsville.
Of the family, native of Germany, he was the first to migrate to America. Three years later, his parents, two brothers and a sister followed.
The family's larder was stocked mostly with wild meat, for he became a talented hunter and fisherman. It was recalled by his children that in 1876 he killed a bear of over 500 lbs. He needed to use a team of oxen to carry it home.
