John & Ruth High moved their family to N.C. about 1764. John bought land at Richland Creek and they resided at Falls of Neuse in Wake Cty, NC(deed at Smithfield, Johnston Cty, NC which later became Wake Cty.)
John's will was dated 6-17-1776 and it was probated on 7-12-1777. Will located in Book A Page 110 in Wake County, NC.
Will of John High - June 17, 1776
In the name of God Amen. I, John High of the county of Wake in Province of Nothe Carolina being sick and weak but of a perfect mind and memory, thanks be given to Almighty God for the Same Calling to Mind the mortality of my body and knowing it is appointed for all men once to die, do make and Ordain this my last will and Testament that is to say principally and firstly of all I give and recomend my Soul into the hands of Almighty God that gave it to me and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in descent Christian burial at the Discreation of my Executors hereafter Mentioned Nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty Power of God and as touching suc Worldly Goods wherewith it hath pleased God to Bless me with in this life. I give devise and dispose of the Same in the following Manner and form, firstly I give to my son, Samuel High five shillings, Secondly I give to my Son Mark High five shillings, Thirdly I give to my daughter Mary Jackson five shillings, Fourthly I give my Son Robert High one negro Girl named Suck, fifthly I give to my Grand daughter Elizabeth High daughter of my son William High thirteen Pounds Six Shillings and Eight Pence. All the above Legacies to be paid by my Executors at my wife's decease. Sixthly I will and Ordain that my Executors pay all my just debts out of my Perishable Estate if Sufficient. Seventhly I lend all the rest of my estate both real and Personal to my loving wife Ruth High during her natural life and no Longer. Eightly I give all my estate in Slaves lent to my wife after her decease to be equally divided between my four children, John High, Michael High, Allsabrook High, & my Daughter Sally or the survivors of them. Ninethly I give all the Perishable Estate lent to my wife at her decease to be equally divided between my three Children Michel High, Allsebrook High, and my daughter Sally High. Tenthly I appoint my Dearly beloved Son Samuel High, Robert High, and my friend Robert Goodlee my whole and Sole Executors of this my last wil and testament and I do hereby Utterly disalow Revoke and Disanull all and any Other fomer testaments, Wills, Legacies, bequests and Executors by me in any wise before Names, Willed and bequesthed Rattifying and confirming this and no Other to be my last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this Seventeenth day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand Seven hundred and seventy Six.
