Notes
Individual:
What drew them to South Bend? Probably job opprtunities. Was it the ope
ning of Studebaker in 1852 and employment in building wagons and carriages? Or was there some family draw to So. Bend?At the time of her death she was living with her daughter, Hazel, and son
-in-law, Charles McGrew. She had lived with them many years and had been bed-ridden in her last years.Prepared by Nichols funeral home.

Marriage:
The William and Jane Elliott Bible lists the official as C.C. West, and t
he official certificate is signed by C.C. West as M.G. (Minister of the Gospel). The Lorain Co. Historical Society could not find Rev. West affiliated with a church, but listed as a clerk in the census. He may, therefore, have been like a Justice of the Peace, a low level court official, a lay minister not salaried by the church, or a part-time minister who maintained another salaried job, not an uncommon arrangement.
The announcement which appeared in The Elyria Republican (Elyria, OH, 27 May 1880, col 5, image 5 of 8 as found on ancestry.com newspaper archives) read: "At No. 32, Fifth Street, Elyria, 22nd of May, by C.C. West, Mr. John H. Tuttle of Cleveland, and Miss Sarah E. Elliott of Elyria."
