Researched by William Adams Kemp on 14Aug 1990. Tombstone reads: Abner Adams born Alford, Mass 1771, Died Adams Basin, 1847, Age 76 yrs. "The memory of the just is blessed "The Abner ADAMS house on Howard Ave in East Bloomfield was built in 1812 and is featured in the "Walking Tour" of E. Bloomfield. .It is a Federal style brick house. The Adams family was active in the political, social and religious life of East Bloomfield. Sophia Adams, Abner's daughter, ran a select school for girlsfrom here in the 1820s. Abner was one of the founders of Adams Basin which was once a considerable port on the Erie Canal. Abner was one of the original contractors who built several sections of the Erie Canal. His greatgrandson was Samuel Hopkins Adams, an author,who dedicated his book Canal Town to him even though it was a fictionalized account of Palmyra, New York in the 1820s.
