Individual:
Joseph Berry Barnett joined the Confederacy July 2, 1862 under the name Joberry Barnett. Regiment Unit: Hillard`s Legion, Cavalry; Unit: M.G. Slaughter`s Battalion. He later served in Logan`s Company, Alabama Mounted Reserve, under the name J. B. Barnett. Joseph Berry could not read or write. Joseph is buried in the old Barnett Family Cemetery, Double Springs, Winston Co., AL. His Civil War veteran`s tombstone was placed by mistake in the Barnett Chapel Church Cemetery, Winston Co., AL. It reads: J. B. Barnett, 1817-1913 Logan`s Co. AL, Mtd. Res. CSA. Joseph outlived 3 wives, and at about age 90 he showed up alone at a relatives house with a feather mattress and a clock. He died a couple of years later. If the prayer "God Rest His Soul" ever applied, it surely applies to Joseph Berry Barnett.
