Notes
Individual:
!BIRTH DATE, DEATH DATE: Daniel-Estes Family Bible. (The Bible

gives his age at death as 88 years, 6 months, and 15 days, but
that is an incorrect calculation. The death date itself appears to
be correct, however, as it is the same death date given in Reuben's
War of 1812 bounty land file.)

!BIRTH PLACE, DEATH PLACE: Federal Census; 1850; Madison County,
Virginia; dwelling #316.

!FATHER: The connection between Reuben Daniel and his father,
Edmund Daniel, involves several elements of proof. They are
explained on my Web site, at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vagenealogy/reuben.htm.
The first element is that Edmund's will refers to one of his sons as Reuben
(Spotsylvania County, Virginia; Will Book F; page 103).

!MARRIAGE, DEATH DATE: War of 1812 Bounty Land File of Reuben
Daniel; National Archives, Washington, D.C.

!On Nov. 2, 1790, Reuben Daniel executed a bond stating that he,
"as Executors and Administrators shall well and Truly pay and deliver
or Cause to be paid and Delivered unto Martha Pollard Orphan of
Haz Pollard deceased all Such estate or Estates as now is or are or
hereafter Shall appear to be due to the said orphan when and as
Soon as She shall attain to Lawfull age or when thereto required of
the Justices of the said County Court" (Spotsylvania County, Virginia,
Will Book E, page 1003). The need for this bond may have been
prompted by the death of one Sarah Pollard in Spotsylvania County
about 1789 (Account of estate of Sarah Pollard; Spotsylvania Will
Book E; page 1615). Also, the following entry, dated Dec. 1789,
appears in the Spotsylvania County, Virginia, Order Book 1755-1786,
on page 330: "Ordered that the overseers of the poor in District no.
2 bind out the orphans of James Lindsay, dec'd, the children of
Joseph Etherton, the children of Edw'd Thomas, and Thomas Pollard
orphan of Hez Pollard according to law."
