| William H. Martin |
!PARENTS: Will of Shadrack Henderson; Nelson County, Virginia; Will Book A; page 135. For a description of the evidence that the William Henderson in this will is my William H. Martin, see my Web page at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vagenealogy/martin.htm William may actually have been a stepson of Shadrack Henderson, rather than his son. !BIRTH DATE: Personal property tax lists; 1796-1807; Albemarle County, Virginia. Shadrack Henderson's third son turned 16 in 1796 (see notes under Joseph and John, the first and second sons). From 1800 through 1803, William is included in Shadrack's entry, identified as his son. From 1805 through 1807, William has his own separate entry, but still designated as "Shas. Son" (or some other abbreviation of Shadrack). My abstract of these lists is on my Web site, at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~vagenealogy/albemarle_tax.txt . Two other sources give William two slightly different birth dates, on either side of 1780: According to the death register (see below), he was born about 1773. According to the 1850 census for Nelson County, Virginia (page 295), he was born about 1784. I have chosen to follow the birth date reflected in the tax lists, because they were created closer to William's actual birth. !BIRTH PLACE, DEATH DATE/PLACE: Albemarle County, Virginia; Register of Deaths, 1853-1861 (1853, line 161). Abstract: Wm H. Martin; died 9 Nov. [1853]; died in Albemarle Co.; cause "not known"; age 80; parents "not known"; born in Albemarle Co.; occupation farmer; widower; informant Jane Martin, daughter-in-law. !SPOUSE: Albemarle County, Virginia; Deed Book 24; page 432 (William H. Martin and Sally, his wife, convey land in which they inherited a one-third interest from Richard Dollins, deceased). Also, Records of the Va. Conference, Southern States Mission, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, FHL microfilm #0001995 (baptism of Mary Ann Martin, stating that her parents were William MARTIN and Sally DALLENS); a transcription of excerpts from this record is posted at | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
