| Daniel Wade |
!BIRTH DATE/PLACE: Federal Census; 1850; Nelson County, Virginia; page 230B (gives birth place as "Unknown"). Nelson Co. was created from Amherst in 1808. !MARRIAGE, MOTHER: Marriage Bond and Consent Note; Amherst County Clerk's Office (marriage of Daniel Wade and Linney Witt). "Sir Please to Issue a Marrage Licence to My son Daniel Waid as he has my Free Consent To Marry Mr. David Witts Daughter Linney.... [signed] nancy Morriss / George Morriss" Also in Marriage Bonds and Other Marriage Records of Amherst County, Virginia, 1763-1800; by William Montgomery Sweeny; page 78. !In 1860, Daniel Wade, age 81, and Malinda Wade, age 80, both born in Virginia, were living in Braxton County, Virginia (later West Virginia) (Federal Census; 1860; Braxton, County, Virginia; page 367A)). !No Daniel Wade or Malinda (Linny) Wade appears in the death register for Braxton County, Virginia (West Virginia), 1853-1880 (according to a transcription by Wes Cochran, 1994). No Daniel Wade or Malinda (Linny) Wade appears in Upshur County Death Records 1853-1928, by Paul and Judith Hawkins. !No estate records of Daniel Wade or Malinda (Linny) Wade, during the years after 1860, appear among the probate records of Braxton County; Upshur County, West Virginia (where their daughter Dicy lived); or Lewis County (which sits between Braxton and Upshur). (Per telephone calls with the three clerk's offices on 6 May 2004.) !Listed immeidately after the household of Daniel and Malinda Wade in the 1860 census of Braxton County is that of John W. Banks, age 44, and Polina Banks, age 39, whose children include Margret Ann, age 14, Malinda J., age 12, and Clinton, age 10. The wife in this household may be related to Daniel and Malinda: John Eubanks and Paulina Wade were married December 23, 1844, in Nelson County, Virginia (Nelson County Marriages, 1808-1850; by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr. (1985); page 122); and the 1850 census of Randolph County, Virginia (page 33B), includes a John Eubanks, age 35, and Paulina Eubanks, age 29, with children Margaret, age 4, Malinda, age 2, and Clinton, age 5 months. !One Denis O. Wade, age 36, and Lucinda J. Wade, age 36, were also living in Braxton County, Virginia, in 1860 (page 369B). Dennis O. Wade and Lucinda Jane Townsend were married 21 Dec. 1846 in Nelson County, Virginia (Nelson County Marriages, 1808-1850; by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr. (1985); page 64). !Other possible children of Daniel Wade are Nancy Wade, who married Richard Hill on November 22, 1819, in Nelson County, Virginia; and Janetta Wade, who married David Witt Jr. on December 19, 1836, in Nelson County. The bondsman on Nancy's marriage was Daniel Wade. (Nelson County Marriages, 1808-1850; by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr. (1985); page 122.) David Witt, age 45, and Jennetta Witt, age 43, were living in Augusta County, Virginia, in 1860 (578B). In 1870, David Witt, age 57, and Jane Witt, age 53, were living in Nelson County, Virginia (page 429A), with one Francis Witt (female), age 82, in the same household. I cannot find Richard and Nancy/Ann Hill in the census records; she may be the Nancy Hill, age 40-50, in the 1830 census of Amherst County, Virginia (page 524), the Nancy Hill, age 50-60, in the 1840 census of the same county (page 223), and the Nancy Hill, age 68, in the 1850 census of the same county (page 148B). !Daniel Wade witnessed the will of Daniel McDonald on July 30, 1812 (Nelson County, Virginia; Will Book A; page 228; as abstracted in Nelson County, Virginia, Courthouse Miniatures: An Abstract of Will Book A; by Bailey Fulton Davis (1964); page 18). !The 1787 personal-property tax list for Amherst County includes a Nathanial WADE and a Jeremiah WADE who could be Daniel's father. !There are no wills in Nelson County, Virginia, for any WADE from 1842 until at least 1873. !Virginia Land Office Military Warrant No. 269 was issued to "Doctr James McClurg ass'ee of David Wade," for 100 acres for David's service "as a Soldier of the State Line" (dated Apr. 30, 1783). The fact that my Daniel Wade named his son David increases the possibility that this David Wade of the Revolutionary War could be my Daniel's father. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||
