| Caffrey Wade |
!FATHER, DEATH DATE: Bill [of Complaint]; Jessie S. Thomas vs. Wade's Administrator & others (filed July 28, 1871); Library of Virginia; Chancery Records Index; Index No. 1886-062 CC; at http://www.lva.lib.va.us/state/records/chancery/index.htm. Caffrey was apparently the first child of David Wade, because (1) David's household in 1840 has a male child, age 10-15 (Albemarle Co., p. 164), and none of his other known sons would have been ten or older in 1840; (2) the only gap in the birthdates of the older children is in the first position; and (3) "Caffrey" is apparently not a middle name of David's sons James or Alexander, because both James and Alexander were still living in 1860 (Albemarle Co., pp. 611, 628). (The complaint in the above-cited litigation refers to land held jointly by Caffrey and his brother James. That land was apparently acquired in a deed from Naaman and Jennett Toms (their first cousin and his wife), dated Nov. 1857 and recorded May 1858, in Albemarle Co. DB 60:310.) !I have been unable to find Caffrey Wade in the 1850 census. This is not the John C. Wade, age 32, in Albemarle County (page 232A), because that John C. Wade was still living in 1860 (Nelson County, Virginia, page 815). |
