!The marriage bond of George Blakey and Clara gives her surname
as DANIEL. That was apparently the surname of her previous
husband, however, because --
(1) a child was born to Garritt and Clary DANIEL on 21 Feb.
1742/43 (Christ Church Parish Register, Middlesex County
Virginia, 1653-1812; by John Otto Yurechko; page 18);
(2) a Garrett DANIEL died on 28 Jan. 1744/45, fifteen months
before George Blakey and Clara "Daniel" were married (page 152);
(3) Clary Daniel is listed as master of a slave on 2 Aug. 1745,
several months before George Blakey and Clara "Daniel" were
married (page 215); and
(4) the parish register lists no other children of Garrett and
Clara Daniel.
!_A Blakey Book_ by Bernard Buckner Blakey (1977) asserts that
Clara's maiden name was Smith (page 14). Apparently the only
evidence for that fact, however, is the birth of a Clara Smith in Christ
Church Parish on 4 Aug. 1723 (Christ Church Parish Register,
Middlesex County Virginia, 1653-1812; by John Otto Yurechko;
page 81).
