(giving his age as 26-45; thus, born 1775-1794).
(3) Federal Census; 1840; Albemarle County, Virginia; page 148
(giving his age as 50-60; thus, born 1780-1790). (James is not
listed in the 1830 census.)
The only overlap in these records of James's age is 1780-1784.
I have, therefore, given his birth date as "about 1782" -- near the
middle of that four-year range.

Kirby, son of James H. & Nancy Kirby; Clerk's Office; Albemarle County,
Virginia (marriage of William O. Kirby and Mary Ann Graves, Nov. 7,

(pertaining to "the tract of land said James Kirby [grantor] had of his
father John Kirby") (executed March 1, 1806). There is only one
James Kirby in the 1810 and 1820 censuses for Albemarle County
(1810, page 164; 1820, page 37). See note under John Kirby for a
reference to the deed in which James received this land. (The
connection between James and his father is also reflected in Albemarle
County, Virginia; Deed Book 17; page 396 (certain heirs of John Kerby
decd. relinquish their right to land which said John had conveyed to a
third party).) Also, entries in the Albemarle County personal property
tax lists for 1800 through 1804 refer to John Kirby and his son, James.

(James Kirby is included in the tax lists for 1848 and earlier, but not in
1849 or later). His widow, Nancy Kirby, is listed in the 1850 census
without him (Albemarle County; page 251).

for James KIRBY or KERBY or KEARBY, including no unindexed bounty
land files.
