Individual:
!William Bell had been married to someone else before he married
Elizabeth CAVE JOHNSON on 23 Feb. 1786, as indicated by the
record of that marriage, which calls William a widower. (Marriages of
Orange County, by Catherine Knorr).
!William Bell's daughter, Sarah Bell (and probably his son John Bell
as well) were not borne by Elizabeth CAVE JOHNSON. One of
Sarah's children, Nancy Bell, was herself married in 1786, so Sarah
was necessarily born well before William Bell and Elizabeth CAVE
JOHNSON were married in that year (1786).
!This first wife of William Bell was probably not the Elizabeth
(Unknown) Davis who married a (different) William Bell in Orange
County, Virginia, about 1734-1738. See note under William Bell.
!Death date is based entirely on the fact that William Bell married his
second wife in 1786.
