Individual:
!BIRTH, MARRIAGE, DEATH: National Archives and Records
Administration, Washington, D.C., File of Service Pension, War of
1812, Ann Tomblin, No. 20598. The marriage bond is dated June
21, 1828.
!Thomas Tomlin appears in the 1823 personal property tax list for
Albemarle County. (The number of tithable persons is not indicated
in this year.)
!That Thomas's father was William Tomblin is shown by the following
facts:
(1) There are only two Tomlin or Tomblin households in the 1810
census of Albemarle County, both of them headed by a William
"Tomberlin" (page 15A). One of those households is as follows:
2 males age 16-25
1 male age 45+
1 female age under 10
1 female age 10-15
1 female age 16-25
1 female age 45+
The other William "Tomberlin" in 1810 was age 26-44, with no other
males in the household (page 15A). The only Tomlin or Tomblin in the
1820 census of Albemarle County is William "Tomblin," age 45+ (page
32).
(2) My Thomas would have been age 19 in 1810. His proven sister,
Mary, would have been age 5 in 1810 (see note under Mary Ann
Tomlin).
(3) Thomas Tomlin was the bondsman for the marriage of Elizabeth
Tomlin, daughter of William Tomblin, on April 23, 1821. He also
witnessed William's consent note. (Albemarle County, Virginia,
Marriages, 1780-1853; by John Vogt & T. William Kethley, Jr.; vol. 2;
page 656.)
(4) My Thomas named his third son William O. He named his
second son Thomas W., perhaps with the middle name William.
