slightly earlier, calculated birth date of 1867, as follows: Federal
Census; Albemarle County, Virginia; 1870; page 455 (listed as "
Mary," age 3); Federal Census; Albemarle County, Virginia; 1880;
E.D. 10; page 256 (listed as "Mary E.," age 12). The family was
enumerated on Aug. 12, 1870, and on June 26/28, 1880. Therefore,
based on these censuses, Mary was born between those two dates in
1867. Since the 1900 census asked for the exact month and year of
birth rather than simply the age, however, I am using the 1900
census for her birth date.
