Individual:
!BIRTH DATE, BIRTH PLACE: Federal Census; Madison County, Va.;
1850; page 83.
!MIDDLE NAME: "Family Record" in possession of Culton Goodall,
son of Job Goodall and half-nephew of Thomas Jefferson Goodall.
!According to records at the National Archives in Washington, D.C.,
Thomas J. Goodall served in the Confederate army (in Capt. Brander's
Co. of Light Artillery). The records indicate that he was "absent sick" in
the Confederate hospital at Charlottesville, Virginia, from August 1862
until the end of the year; that he was absent without leave from the
hospital beginning December 20, 1862 (presumably at home -- see note
under his mother); and that he "returned from desertion" in late 1863 or
early 1864.
!The family tradition is that Thomas died while in the Confederate army,
but I have found no record of his death.
