Notes
Individual:
!MARRIAGE (to George Morriss): Marriage Bond and Consent

Note; Amherst County Clerk's Office (marriage of "George Morriss
Batchelor and Nancy Daniel Wade Spinster both of the County
of Amherst"). The consent note calls her "Nancy Daniel Waid,"
and she signs her consent "Nancy D Waid". Also in Marriage Bonds
and Other Marriage Records of Amherst County, Virginia, 1763-
1800; by William Montgomery Sweeny; page 54.

!Since Nancy's first husband apparently died betwen 1779 (when
her son Daniel was born) and 1790 (when she married George
Morriss), her first husband may be the John WADE whose will was
probated in Amherst County in 1787 (Will Book 3, page 45).
I have requested a copy of this will from the clerk's office.

!Nancy's maiden name was probably DANIEL. However, no DANIEL
appears on the 1783 or 1785 lists of "heads of families" from Amherst
County posted on VAGenWeb (http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/
usgenweb/va/amherst/census/1783head.txt and
http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/va/amherst/census/
1785cens.txt). Nor does any DANIEL appear on the "Early Virginia
Religious Petitions" from Amherst County in the Library of Congress's
"American Memory" collection (http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/
index.html). The Amherst County petitions are dated in 1776, 1778,
1779, 1780, 1783, and 1785.

!The will of one James Daniel of Albemarle County, Virginia, was
executed in 1760 and probated in 1761 (Albemarle Co. WB 2:94).
It mentions his children Chisley Daniel (son), Abraham Daniel, Leonard
Daniel, Josiah Daniel, James Daniel, John Daniel (not yet 21 years of
age), Susannah Bedford, Mary Daniel, Mercy Daniel. This testator
could be the grandfather or other relative of my Nancy.
