Notes
Individual:
!DEATH DATE/PLACE: Will of Manus Burgher; Albemarle County,

Virginia; Will Book 2; Page 386 (executed and probated in 1780).

!Manus Burger was in Albemarle County by at least March 13, 1746/47,
when he was a defendant in a legal action on a debt brought by one
William Cabell (Albemarle County Order Book 1744-1748, pages 246-247).
Judgment was entered against Manus, but the order book does not describe
the basis of the suit. The same order book also contains entries for
approximately nineteen other cases brought by Mr. Cabell.

!Manus Burger received a patent for 222 acres in Albemarle County on
1 June 1750 (Virginia Land Patent Book 29; transcribed in Virginia
Genealogical Society Quarterly; series XXX; volume 3 (1 August 1992);
page 208). This land was surveyed for Manus Berger on March 3, 1747/48.
It was described as being "on both sides of Defaus Spring branch,"
"joining B. Wheeler's line, John McDaniel's lease." ("Land Lying in the County
of Albemarle:" Albemarle County, Virginia Surveyors' Plat Books, Volume 1,
Parts 1 and 2, and Volume 2, 1744-1853 [and 1892]; by Eric G. Grundset;
page 17.)

!Manus Burgher's father-in-law MAY have been one Benjamin Wheeler
(Albemarle County DB 4, page 120 (1765), conveying slaves in exchange
for love and affection). (I have not seen this document, only an abstract
of it on another Web site.) The land for which Manus Burger received
a patent in 1750 (see above) was "bounded by Benjamin Wheeler's line."
