Notes
Individual:
!FATHER, SPOUSE: Albemarle County, Virginia; Deed Book 17;

page 396 (certain heirs of John Kerby decd. relinquish their right to
land which said John had conveyed to a third party) (executed
28 December 1810) (gives Charity's married surname as "Copetin").

!BIRTH DATE: Albemarle County, Virginia, Personal Property Tax
List; 1800 (abstracted in The Virginia Genealogist; John Frederick
Dorman, ed.; volume 3, page 113, 119 (1959) (entry for Charity
Kerby, separate from that of her father). Since the list is supposed
to include males age 21 and older, Charity was apparently at least
21 years old in 1800. She was probably not much older than 21,
given that she was married in 1803.

!MARRIAGE: Albemarle County Marriages, 1780-1853; by John
Vogt & T. William Kethley; vol. II; page 530 (gives the groom's name
as William "Copeland"). Consent note says that Charity was "over 21."

!On March 23, 1803, one Charity Kirby received a grant of 35 acres in
Albemarle County, "on the south side of Buck Island creek." The meets-
and-bounds description of the land refers to John Kirby's line. (An image
of this grant is on the Library of Virginia web site, at
http://eagle.vsla.edu/lonn/.)
