Revolutionary War pension application file of William Kirby
(W7998). That this is the same William Kirby who was a son of
John Kirby is shown by the testimony of Susanna Jones, who
testified that William was her brother. Abstracts of selected
documents:
(1) January 1, 1821. William Kirby of Albemarle County, Virginia,
age 61 on "the 19th day of November last, states that he enlisted
in Hanover County, Virginia, in 1779. His wife is age 52 years.
(2) August 3, 1818. William Kirby of Albemarle County, Virginia,
age 59, states that he enlisted in Hanover County, Virginia, in 1779.
(3) April 1, 1851. Elizabeth Kirby of Albemarle County, Virginia,
age 85, states that she married William Kirby "shortly after the close
of the Revolutionary War the day and date note recollected."
Her husband died August 17, 1848.
(4) April 4, 1851. Susanna Jones states that "although quite
young she makes no earthly doubt that her brother William Kirby
was legally married to Elizabeth McDaniel whom he left as his
widow. Sd Susanna Jones is the only surviving member of her
father's family.... Sd Susanna Jones is an elderly lady...."
(5) April 27, 1855. Elizabeth Kirby of Nelson County, Virginia,
age about 90. States that she has resided in Nelson County for
seven or eight months.
