page 121B. The 1860 census (see below) gives her a birth date ten
years earlier, but the 1850 census is apparently more reliable in this
regard because (1) the 1850 census is the earlier census, and thus
generally more reliable in relation to ages; and (2) Sarah's husband was
about fifty years old when they married (see note under Hawsey),
thus increasing the possibility of a significant difference in their ages.
