John Collins departed this life March the 18th 1878, in the 77th year
of his life".
!A slightly later (i.e., younger) birth date of about 1810 is reflected in
Federal Census; 1850; Madison County, Virginia; page 110; and Federal
Census; 1860; Madison County, Virginia; page 95 (in both years, she is
listed as "Eliza," with her husband, John Collins). A slightly earlier birth
year (1808) is stated in an unpublished work entitled "1907 Madison
Almanac Embracing a County Directory of Generally Useful Information,"
which includes this entry for Thursday, December 12, 1907: "Mrs. John
Collins b1808, still living."
!BIRTH PLACE, FATHER, MARRIAGE: Marriage bond and
consent note; clerk's office; Madison County, Virginia. (The fact
that there was only one Reuben Daniel in the 1830 and 1840 censuses
for Madison County is further evidence that the Reuben Daniel who
signed this consent note is my Reuben Daniel.)
