Welcome to my gedcom of (mostly) Virginia ancestry! Most of the people in this database lived in the counties of Shenandoah, Rockingham, Augusta, Albemarle, Nelson, Madison, Orange, Spotsylvania, Page, Culpeper, Middlesex, and Isle of Wight, and surrounding areas of Virginia. You'll also find a few in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and other places. After exploring my gedcom, please visit my other Web pages, with more information on my ancestors and links to other genealogy sites. Sources: Unlike many researchers, I do not post information for which I do not have sources. Other peoples' gedcoms, World Family Tree, published genealogies, and similar collections are not "sources" in this sense. References to my sources appear at the bottom of most of the pages in this gedcom. Please see "My Plea for More Citation of Primary Sources" in my other Web pages. (I have had some trouble getting my genealogy software to include all of my notes when creating a gedcom. If you don't see notes on someone whose surname appears in the list of my main surnames on my other Web pages [except certain end-of-line individuals and some persons related to me only by marriage], it might be because of that software problem.) In some (perhaps 30-40%) of the instances where I cite a primary source in the notes, I have actually seen only a transcription or abstract of the primary source rather than the primary source itself. Within that 30-40% or so, I have tried to cite the location of the transcription or abstract in addition to the primary source, but sometimes only the primary source is cited. Other surnames: In addition to the information in this gedcom, I have information from other researchers, on various lines, that I have not yet been able to verify. Some of the additional surnames in my unverified information, and the Virginia counties (or other locations) to which they relate, are: ACUFF (Madison), CALLOWAY (Orange, Madison), COLE (Isle of Wight, Va., and Essex, England), CHURCHILL (Middlesex), CRAWFORD (Rockingham), HUBBARD (Spotsylvania), JAMES (Augusta or Albemarle), METZ (Pennsylvania), and RICKSTACKER (Pennsylvania).
