Notes from funeral service given by Rev. .... McElerhan [sp?] Scripture John 11: 1-27

I count it a great privelege to have been asked to take this honored position of giving testi mony and to pay tribute to Mrs. Bressler, who for years I have considered, Mother.

Today I am departing from the common book form for a funeral service and am going right to th e Word for comfort. Search as I may in the scriptures for instructions as to how to conduct a service for the dead, I can find none. The reason for this is - the Bible was written for the living and not for the dead, she is very much alive in the presence of the One she loved and whom she served. These words of comfort are found in the words of Scripture that we have just read. "Whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believeth thou this?" John 11: 26. Mother has just gone home.

It was in the year 1945 that we first made our acquaintance with the Bresslers .............. .....................in Nigeria, Africa as Missionaries with the Sudan Interior Mission: it was during the war years and money was not easy to come by. Now with no money to purchase our ticket and the day of our departure had arrived, out Mission asked us whether or not we would proceed to the Coast and by faith trust God to supply this money to see us home. We needed one thousand dollars and we took the challenge. A thousand dollars in those days was a lot of money and only God knew the one who if spoken to would love Him enough to give it. God had the Bresslers in mind and just two days before the ship was to leave the Nigerian shores we received a telephone call from the Mission saying 'the money needed had come in.' From Mr and Mrs George Bressler.

We will not soon forget our first meeting with the Bresslers. It was out on the farm in thos e days. Dad Bressler met me at the bus station. I can't remember the kind of car he had but I could never forget the home.

Many times since that memorable day I have had the privelege of returning to what I soon lear ned to call "home". Many hours I have spent with mother over the open Bible. There was one subject that particularly interesting to her and that ...................... again ...................... After Dad had passed on, mother was interested and looked forward to her meeting her Lord and Saviour. Now she has reached the Glory Land, to the place prepared for her. No, mother is not dead, she has just gone home.

A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled;
A place is vacant in our home
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon His love has given.
And though the body slumbers here,
The soul is safe in heaven.
