Family story:
There was a knight in a small castle in Cardigan, Wales named Shelby (SELBY). He was obligated to the king of England to send fighting men when the king so ordered. The King called and Shelby sent the required number of men to Ireland under his son Evan as their officer. Job done, They went home.
But Evan's family was disgraced. He had brought back with him a bride, a Roman Catholic, Irish coleen,. The parents demanded that he send her back to Ireland and have the marriage annulled. Protestants could be executed for marrying Catholics.
Evan refused. He hung around for awhile, but no one would have anything to do with him--not even his parents. They did not want to be ostracized also for their son's sins. Eventually Evan packed up and came to America.
This would explain why he did not ever name a son for his father Phillip. His mother's name Margaretta has been passed down through the descendants for generations.

Lived near the market town of Tregaron in County Cardigan, Mid Wales; farmer and member of the Church of England.
after 1732 Evan, wife Catherine Davies and six children left Wales
1735 Arrived in Philadelphia, Pa Had sevent child
1742 Prince Georges Co., MD Catherine gives consent to sale of their property
Moved to Franklin County, PA and settled on 300 acre farm called "BlackWalnut Point" on Conococheagur Creek
After four years, moved to 1000 acre plantation in western MD called Midens Choice. Tract lies at the foot of a line of hills known as North Mountain in what is now the center of Washington County (was Prince George's County.
Later got other tracts totalling 2500 acres from Lord Baltimore' government
